The 3-Question AI Readiness Test

I've talked to 50+ SMB owners about AI. The ones seeing results all answered YES to these 3 questions.

Most SMBs struggle with AI not because they lack technical skills, but because they don't know where to start. After working with dozens of businesses, I've distilled readiness into 3 simple questions.

Question 1: Do you repeat this task weekly?

AI excels at patterns. If you're doing something repeatedly—whether it's lead follow-up, invoice processing, or content scheduling—that's your candidate. Sporadic, one-off tasks don't benefit from automation.

Examples:

  • Following up with leads every day
  • Sorting and triaging emails
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Sending reminders

Question 2: Does it follow a pattern you could explain?

Can you write down the steps? If yes, AI can probably handle it. The key is explicit logic: "If X happens, do Y." Vague tasks like "improve marketing" don't work. Specific tasks like "when a lead fills out the form, send this email sequence" do.

Question 3: Would a 10% improvement matter?

This is the ROI test. If you handle 10 leads per month, saving 5 minutes per lead won't change your business. If you handle 500 leads per month, it changes everything. AI multiplies effort—you need volume for the math to work.

If you answered YES to all 3, you're ready for AI automation.

The businesses seeing results aren't the ones with the biggest budgets or technical teams. They're the ones who picked one repetitive task, mapped the pattern, and deployed a simple system.

Your next step: Pick one task this week. Not two. Not a whole system. One task that passes all three questions.
